Not just for women... Anyone can follow these ideas!
1) never get a basement or 1st floor apartment with windows easy to get into

2) find out what your door is made of, if not heavy duty outside door, get one

3) put longer screws in the hinges of the doors, the short one's screw into basically nothing and can be easily kicked in

4) don't hang keys near the door

5) make it look like someone is in your place when you are gone, so it makes it difficult to figure out for someone observing (such as some kind of timer hooked up to lights and radio)

6) move to a safer neighborhood or town

7) don't walk home drunk (get a ride with someone you know or taxi/uber)

8) don't have a weapon you don't know how to use.... practice with it

9) take some basic self-defense classes, and others as well that keep your body strong

10) I hear people talk dog, but if you have another pet, like a cat or snake, you can throw that at someone too

11) Love yourself.... you are valuable.... take care of yourself

12) I recommend NOT living alone.... I have done it... but things can be cheaper with a roommate or two, you can learn negotiation skills, you can keep an eye on each other.... it's a lot less scary to live with others too!

13) watch videos on ways to improve the safety of your living space

14) enjoy your life!

15) keep a rechargeable flashlight near where you sleep and your door, I cannot believe the number of times I needed one and keep one plugged in to outlets in several places in my place. lights go out sometimes... and other things!
