I do agree that everyone should have arrangements for what you want done if you become incapacitated.... I have seen it happen to many young people from things like car accidents and other medical situations, then families fight often about choices they want done and property. Your doctor can help you with that paperwork, and so can your bank for free.

I have some problems with this story though,

1) That medical sheet of paper says he was incapacitated for a specific time period, it is a medical form for an injury or something that happened to him, and it also says he can return to work pending the report once completed. That has nothing to do with his mental abilities.

2) The amount of money he is getting, $33,000 is not enough to live on in most areas of the USA, let alone buy a house and car. The wife is not living on his money.

3) If he is on Hospice care, then he is declared to have a terminal illness and only has 6 months or less to live, that is a requirement of Hospice.

4) If she has him in a facility, then someone has to pay for that, either her, or the government, and he does not qualify for government money until she only has less than a certain amount in her accounts (including his money).

5) Losing weight is almost inevitable with people with dementia because they use a lot of calories, more than an average person, with their thought processes. And.... many have other problems which don't let the body absorb nutrients.

6) I don't know the reasons she had him in a facility, but that means she is caring for him, in a place where he has 24/7 care.

7) Bladder infections are very common in elderly, sometimes they are non-treatable.

8) The family seems very unrealistic about what Hospice care means; do they want his money? What is their background?

9) There is no evidence that he was mentally incapacitated when they got married. While it is illegal for an incapacitated person to enter into a legally binding contract, there is just simply no evidence to prove that was the case with him in this situation.

10) Talking through a door does not mean she is doing anything wrong; the reporter should not even be bothering her; I would tell him to get off of my property before calling the police for harassment.

I looked them up, there was just one online, starting price $169,000..... WOW that is expensive and ridiculous for that size. One bedroom, two bathroom. I live in the Midwest and there are houses with 3 or 4 bedrooms for those prices, yard, full or partial basements, some with garages... but, you have to pay for heat in the winter, and the summers are humid, but you could live with no air-conditioner, especially if you would be willing to sleep in the basement. (a lot of people have their basements fixed up into extra workshop, living/family room, bathroom, storage for food and lots of other items like fishing poles, tools, hobby stuff.

I will say most doctors and nurses care very much about their patients and doing the best job they possibly can. But all medical staff are humans, and humans do make mistakes. A lot of the people working in healthcare are over worked and stressed which doesn't help anything either.

All patients need to stand up for themselves, do research, ask questions, read the fine print. There are over 250,000 medical errors in USA hospitals yearly, and all staff are constantly trying to improve so the mistakes don't repeat. People act like doctors and nurses should be more like gods and goddesses, perfect in every way and when they aren't, then they treat them like they are the most wicked things around, this is not fair.

Ask yourself if the medicine or procedure really needs to be done.... is there something else you can do like even change your diet or exercise more, what are the risks and benefits, what is the outcome if you follow the recommendations or don't follow them. Any time a person has surgery there is a risk of death, just from the surgery even when everything is done right. Every time you take a medication, there are side effects. Don't be naive. Even going into the hospital increases your risks due to nosocomial infections.

Yes, doing the wrong procedure is a HUGE mistake in this case, but remember how many people are saved from the care of physicians and all medical staff. We have a big problem in USA healthcare, it is not because the doctors and nurses don't care, it is the healthcare system for profit, and the way they run things, this needs to change.

Get informed and demand a better system. Any one of us can go to other countries and get better care for less money. The citizens in many other countries also demand better food, and education for themselves, and many of them work a lot less so have more family time and less stress. We can make our system better for us!

Social media has created group hate fast and resulted in mass killings of people and that has been proven, although hate campaigns have been created by different groups throughout history. I am impressed that Mark stood and faced the families while he talked, that deserves credit and respect.

In America, more than 200,000 people die each year from medical error, is one of my big reasons I think it is a bad idea to risk a person's life with unnecessary surgeries. I also don't like pharmaceutical companies profiting so much, or any of the medical industry on things that are harmful. I do believe that males and females come in wide ranges and that is an unbelievable wonderful thing about humans.

I think it is limiting to believe that only men or women do, think, feel and act in certain ways, and important to realize that they both have opportunities to express themselves whatever their gender, especially in European countries, and many native cultures as well. Thank you Bjorne!
