How To Protect Your Home and Life Savings From Nursing Home Expenses

I can not stand this stuff they do the elderly and their families, it would not happen in other countries. I told my kids, to get me on Hospice and give me lots of medication, so they don't lose the house I worked hard for. On the other hand, I have been a nurse in nursing homes for over 25 years, and I can tell you that we love our residents! We do a lot of extra things for them that are difficult sometimes 24/7. Some of them stay up for days at a time, some fight, some fall a lot, some can not walk, some are very heavy. It is much easier for a few people to help with their care than one or two at home while trying to work. I think both have advantages, it just bugs me that some people lose everything they worked for, that they were hoping would go to their kids. I have seen so many of them cry. If someone can take care of a loved one, then it could be better for the loved one, or not. It takes a lot of patience, and people need to know they will be changing diapers. One thing about the nursing home, many have their own rooms, which look great, like 5 star hotels, but, most of those people do not want to sleep alone. They want someone near, even when they do not know what is going on. Frequently we had a few of them fall asleep in the living room in recliners, because they enjoyed each others company. Sometimes just sitting with them and holding their hand really comforts them, other times they want to twist your hand into a piece of sausage... lol, seriously. We need to work to change the laws so families are more protected and the elderly can be taken care in the safest and best place possible without it putting the family into debt, and so they can keep some of what was worked for. You know rich people make sure their assets are protected, and so should everyones! No reason to keep families poor. I don't understand it, when I pay for insurance to go to the doctor normally, no one expects me to pay that back, why nursing home care?
